Zero Fraud Score Proxies: What the Number Actually Means
A zero fraud score means one specific scoring service, on one specific day, found no abuse history or anonymising signals attached to an IP. It is a useful signal and a weak guarantee: the score comes from a third party, the services disagree with one another, and a clean address can drift within weeks of being handed to someone else. What matters is not whether a provider claims zero, but which service was asked, how recently, and whether you can see the answer before you pay.

Search for proxies and every provider on the first page promises a zero fraud score. The phrase has become a checkbox, printed next to bandwidth and latency as though it were an equally fixed property of the product. It is not. Speed is something a provider controls; a fraud score is something an outside company decides about them.
What a fraud score actually measures
A fraud score is a 0–100 risk rating that anti-fraud vendors assign to an IP address. It is not a measurement of the connection — it is a summary of that address's reputation, built from a handful of signals: whether the ASN belongs to a hosting company, whether the address has appeared in spam or abuse reports, whether it has been seen carrying VPN or proxy traffic, and how much automated activity has come from it recently.
Sites buy those ratings and act on them before your request reaches the application. That is why the number matters more than it looks: a high score does not produce an error message, it produces a CAPTCHA you cannot pass, a signup that silently fails review, or a card that is declined without explanation.
Why the services disagree
There is no central registry of IP reputation. Each vendor runs its own crawlers, buys its own blocklist feeds and weights them differently, so the same address routinely gets different verdicts on the same day. The disagreement is not a bug in one of them — they are answering slightly different questions.

This is the whole reason a single zero is a weak claim. If three services will give you three numbers, quoting the lowest one is not verification — it is selection. A provider showing you one clean result has told you that at least one service agrees with them, which is a much smaller statement than it sounds.
One service saying zero tells you an address passed one test. Two independent services saying zero tells you something about the address.
Why ISP proxies score well in the first place
An ISP proxy is a static address hosted on datacenter hardware but registered under a consumer ISP's ASN. Because the reputation lookup resolves the ASN to a residential provider rather than a hosting company, the largest single penalty in most scoring models never applies. That is a structural advantage, and it is why ISP ranges usually sit at or near zero without anyone doing anything special.
Structural is not the same as guaranteed. Within a single provider's inventory, some subnets have been in circulation longer than others, and history accumulates unevenly. Two addresses sold under the same product name can score zero and forty.
What a verified claim should include
If a provider is going to sell a clean score as a feature rather than a hope, four things need to be true. None of them is technically difficult, which is why their absence is informative.
- 1Named services. Not 'major fraud databases' — the actual names, so you can repeat the lookup.
- 2More than one. Agreement across independent services is the part that is hard to fake.
- 3A recent date. Reputation data ages. A check from last quarter describes a different address.
- 4Visible before purchase. A score you can only see after paying is a receipt, not a guarantee.

How to check an address yourself
You do not need to take anyone's word for this, including ours. Take the exit IP, look it up in two scoring services, and compare. The whole exercise takes about a minute per address and is the single most useful check in our proxy quality checklist.
Two details make the result meaningful. Check the address you were actually given rather than a sample from the provider's marketing, and check it again a week later — the second reading tells you whether the range is stable or drifting, which no first reading can.

What a zero fraud score does not buy you
This is where the phrase gets oversold. A clean score removes one reason to be blocked. It does nothing about the others, and for account work the others are usually what get you caught.
- Browser fingerprint. A perfect IP behind a headless browser with a mismatched timezone still looks automated. See anti-detect browsers.
- Behaviour. Rate, timing and navigation patterns are scored independently of the address.
- Account history. A flagged account stays flagged on a clean IP.
- What you do next. Reputation is earned and lost by traffic. The address you are given is a starting position, not a permanent state.

Treat a zero as a clean starting line rather than a shield. It is genuinely worth having — being pre-flagged is a hole you cannot dig out of with careful pacing — but it is one variable among several, and the account management fundamentals still decide the outcome.
Scores drift after purchase, and no provider can promise otherwise. What a provider can reasonably promise is the state of the address on the day it was handed over, measured by services you can name and repeat.

How do I check the fraud score of my proxy?
Find the exit IP by routing a request through the proxy to an IP echo service, then look that address up in two independent scoring services and compare. Checking the same address again a week later shows whether the range is stable.
Is it worth paying extra for verified zero fraud score IPs?
It is worth it when a block is expensive — payment flows, account creation at scale, or any workflow where a single flagged signup costs more than the surcharge. For general scraping against targets that do not consult reputation data, the standard pool is usually enough.
